Miniatures

'Tulips for Wee Ava'

While joyously awaiting the day I could hold my first wee granddaughter Ava Marie, I made this mini quilt in hopes that day she would love to call it her own.

I wanted to challenge myself creating 1-inch blocks and baby finger tip sized spin appliqué tulips.

This quilt is made from Civil War reproduction fabrics, silk, hand-dyed threads and Wonderfil variegated threads.

'William Morris Takes Flight'

William Morris Takes Flight is a miniature quilt, which contains hand appliqued bees sitting on 1-inch squares.

When you look at a photograph of a miniature quilt, you are not supposed to readily see what size it is.  It is supposed to look like a full size quilt at first glance, and this small treasure does just that.  The small quilting, the special threads used to make it look like bias and give it another dimension, are all part of this little treasure.

'Quiet Path'

I had an opportunity to join a challenge using beautiful hand made piece of Tokawa Senka paper from Japan.

I hand dyed the paper, turned it into small lily pond flowers, embellished them, added 3D cotton petals, and used raw silk to create a water path.

I used Wonderfil threads exclusively, and hand dyed wool rovings to add more texture.
