'Take me Back to Ireland'

This handmade quilt showcases my father's family history in Ireland.

Each block has its own meaning behind it. For instance, my Mother and Grandmother collected Belleek Pottery, so there is a block dedicated to that. There is a block with the names of my Grandparents, an "A" block for my maiden name - "Armstrong".

The quilt includes Irish crochet lace inserts and border. Notice the juxtaposed shapes of the blocks and the unique colours chosen!

'Honouring the Ladies'

This quilt was designed and created as I studied the life of Martha Virginia Crittenden Winchester, a Kentucky quilter from the 1800's, as a part of a quilt study that I participated in with the American Quilt Study Group.

It is a controlled crazy quilt, where anything goes! It includes heavy embroidery, use of antique lace, glass, mother of pearl buttons, velvet, wool, silk and cotton.

'Her Time is in my Time'

This quilt depicts a lady's day from her home in Newport, Rhode Island, during the 1880's.

Each block showcases many aspects of a lady's day - including visiting the Rose Island Lighthouse, painting by the ocean, and sewing using an 1880's Singer sewing machine.

All blocks feature unique materials, including men's ties and William Morris wallpaper detail (in fabric of course), and the frame border is 3D!

'Jewelbox Memories'

This quilt showcases the lives of my immediate family. There is a block for my father's love of music, my mother's love of flowers, my children Kate and Mitchell's birth dates, as well as a block for my husband Peter and I.

Notice the four heavy cornerstone blocks, the simple curved borders with lace that give your eyes a place to rest, and the juxtaposed block shapes and colours.

'Walking Through my Winter Wonderland'

This reverse appliquéd quilt showcases winter scenes using different types of lace "snowflakes", with a simple free motion quilted dark blue background.

All blocks are hand appliquéd. Notice the tiny needleturn appliquéd snowballs in the center row?

I hope you enjoy the journey through "Walking Through My Winter Wonderland!

'Fulfilling a Dream'

"Fulfilling A Dream"is a hand appliquéd quilt depicting my favourite Baltimore album type of block, and uses beads and embroidery embellishments.

'Hughes Wedding Quilt'

This fun quilt is made from Civil War fabric, and is the perfect thing to cuddle up with in front of the TV!

When I make large quilts, I try to make them reversible, with two totally different vibes on each side. On this quilt, I incorporated a fresh black and white print with yellow, as well as some of the Civil War fabric!

This quilt is covered with messages and endearments, celebrating the marriage of my daughter Kate Marie Simmelink to Tyler Lloyd Hughes.

'Love'

Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her quote "Love does not make the world go round, love is what makes the ride worthwhile" is the message of love within this 3D rose quilt.

This free motion quilt shows you what us possible in my 3D flower classes!

This nice quilt block makes my heart sing!

'Nelly's Quilt'

Nelly's Quilt is a very simple pieced 3 block quilt, made to showcase Civil War fabrics. It is a twin size, with 1 extra block at the bottom to tuck into the mattress. The side border is made up of extra block pieces arranged in rows, and the outside border colour was selected so I could free motion quilt swags, flowers other endearments.  This is the "winter" side, the reverse are light yellow, blues and white!
